We also want to wish everyone a Blessed Feast of St James the Greater, the brother of our Patron Saint, St John the Apostle. The “Sons of Thunder” as they were affectionately called by Our Lord, for their “occasionally misplaced zeal and passion.” We at the Fraternal Society can empathize with occasionally misplaced zeal and passion. We aim to channel our love for Christ and His Church into positive evangelization for the rich history of Our Faith.
You may learn more about St James via this beautiful reflection by Dom Prosper Gueranger with a snippet below.
Patron of Spain, forget not the grand nation which owes to thee both its heavenly nobility and its earthly prosperity; preserve it from ever diminishing those truths which made it, in its bright days, the salt of the earth; keep it in mind of the terrible warning that if the salt lose its savor, it is good for nothing any more but to be cast out and to be trodden on by men. At the same time remember, O Apostle, the special cultus wherewith the whole Church honors thee. Does she not to this very day keep under the immediate protection of the Roman Pontiff both thy sacred body, so happily rediscovered, and the vow of going on pilgrimage to venerate those precious relics?
We hope to see you in September celebrating San Gennaro!
The San Gennaro “Festival of all Festivals” is one of the great inspirations for the Fraternal Society of St John the Apostle so we hope you will join us on Tuesday, September 19th when we welcome Fr. Richard Gennaro Cipolla with Vespers, Benediction, Confession, the Rosary, and of course a fantastic Italian-American meal courtesy of Felice’s Italian Pork Store & Deli for a night of spiritual enrichment, good food, drink, and fellowship.
Fr. Richard Cipolla is a Catholic priest and convert from the Episcopal faith welcomed into the Church by Pope St John Paul II. He is the retired pastor of St. Mary’s Church, in Norwalk, CT. He holds a D. Phil from Oxford University and was for many years Chair of the Classics Department at the Brunswick School. He is also the Chairman of the Society of St Hugh Cluny and a member of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St. George. His writings have been featured in Rorate Caeli, 1P5, Crisis Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, the Catholic Herald, and The Catholic Thing among many other sites.
